Graduate Transfers didn't exist 35 years ago, but if they did they wouldn't have had a problem in our graduate programs because the students that were accepted and the programs in general weren't what they are now.
Same goes for general student admissions. Lots of guys that were accepted back then and were key parts of our program wouldn't be able to hack it at today's university.
I'm not saying we can't succeed with our current standards (Stanford has had some success, although they obviously have a leg up in being the prestigious school in the West), but it is certainly a whole lot harder than it was. Why? Because there are too many Mormons that want to go to BYU which has caused everything to get tougher and more difficult. Strange concept to think about.
