Carbs don't clog your arteries, and have less than half as many calories per gram than fat. Unless you are diabetic, I don't understand why carbs would scare anyone.
As for sodium, I just googled the nutrition facts for Thomas' Bagels, and the % of carbs and the % of sodium provided for a 2000 calorie diet were both 17% so it is proportional in that respect (Thomas' bagels were 250 calories, which is 12.5% of a 2000 calorie diet, so a bagel wouldn't throw you too far off pace for of calories to sodium ratio. Still unmanageable.)
Unless you are part of the 25% of the population impacted by hypertension, I don't understand why sodium in bagels would be an issue.
