Everyone has them where I live (northern NM) though it seems the last few years
people have been getting AC because it's been so much hotter than it was 20+ years ago. They work amazingly well here because the air is so dang dry. I've used my Infrared sensor and sometimes we'll get 25+ degrees cooler air out of the swamp than the outside air temperature and all you have to pay for is a big squirrel fan and a little water, so waaay cheaper than AC. The problem is most aren't ducted through the whole house, so you'll be comfortable near the swamp but hot in a remote bedroom. Also if it gets humid outside they don't work nearly as well. I'm building a new house and will be putting in Central air/heat fwiw.
