area I used to live (Texas) so I picked it up thinking it might be someone I know. He said "Hey Unibro we haven't met but we have a mutual friend in (name I didn't recognize)."
In hindsight I am sure he was cold-callling. Here is how the rest of the conversation went:
Guy: We're continuing to grow our business, and your friend says you are a really sharp guy. Would you be open to a new opportunity?
Me: Well, I am generally pretty satisfied with where I am at... but what do you have?
Guy: That is a good question with a long answer, let me play a really short recording for you and if you are interested we can talk some more.
Then he plays a recording of some Texan guy talking about what an amazing opportunity this was for him, he has more time, money, relationships are improving, blah blah blah. At this point I know this is a sales pitch and something I am not interested in (based on the sales tactic). The recording didn't say one thing about what the opportunity is or what company they represent... nothing. I am thinking it's Amway or something. Guy gets back on the line.
Guy: Pretty powerful, huh?
Me: Well... I don't have a clue what he was talking about.
Guy: Well let me explain. I am sitting here with a business partner, let me hand the phone over to him and have him tell you what this has done for him and his life.
Me: How about you just tell me what we're talking about. Not the benefits of it, but the opportunity. Is it a job? Investment opportunity? Sales opportunity?
Guy: Like I said, that is a long answer. I can send you a DVD to explain more, but there are 2 sides of it. There is a membership in the company (still hadn't named the company) and you get access to incredible deals. Think Costco or Samsclub but on steroids. Membership is by invitation only, there is no website or other means to sign up. So the savings side of things is a great deal on its own. Then there's the opportunity to earn money by inviting friends and family.
Me: I see. So this is an MLM. An MLM is just something that I would never ever waste my time and money on or be interested in at any level. Mmmkay?
Guy: Ok, well you have a nice day then.
What say you, did I squander a golden opportunity?
