...when Yoeli was struggling or tired or in foul trouble we had to turn to players like Luke Worthington or Dalton Nixon for major minutes, guys who would not be getting major minutes if the situation was reversed and they were playing at UVU. These are two proven talents shooting from 3 and both players have the ability to create their own shot off the bounce as well, something that nobody on BYU's bench has been able to do the past several years.
If all we get are rotation guys with Lowell and Toolson it will be a plus over anything we've had on the bench for several years but I don't think that will be the case for either and I think both players will be major contributors before they're done.
Toolson is really tough to defend because he plays bigger than 6'5" and is really good at posting up guards who defend him and can get to the rim at will. He also can step out and hit the 3 better than any current BYU player on the roster. He will be a matchup problem for many teams in the WCC.
Lowell had offers from both Colorado and Oklahoma St plus a ton from smaller mid-major programs like Utah St, San Diego, etc. Having a 6'10" PF with length who can hit the 3 and score off the bounce is what we hoped to get from Payton Dastrup before Rose and his staff screwed that deal up. With Lowell we get a 2nd bite at that apple and he will pair up nicely with Baxter as another matchup problem in the WCC.
