No one is saying TDs aren't better.
But any coach out there would rather have three points than a punt. It's why consistent kickers who can make distant field goals are so highly prized in the NFL. It can be an additional 6-9 PPG if you have a kicker who can make it deep rather than 2-3 extra punts.
