Are you not able to differentiate a brand from a team? I'm not arguing that Utah and USC are even in the same ballpark,
when it comes to how they're regarded. USC is probably among the most highly regarded and iconic college football brands in America- easily Top 10- probably Top 5. When you look at the number of national championships, Rose Bowls, Heisman trophy winners, etc- they are an elite program- in the same company as ND, Michigan, Ohio State, and Alabama.

But right now, USC is a dumpster fire. They were 5-7 last year- despite still getting elite talent. They have a crappy AD. Clay Helton is certainly on the hot seat right now- who knows if he'll even make it through the season. Helton's also had some serious staff issues.

Utah won the PAC-12 South, and played in the championship game. They're returning a lot of their starters. And are ranked in the pre-season polls. Right now, they're one of the better Pac-12 teams. But no, they're not a national brand.
