It's a modified shop vac with a interior metal screened cage (for ventilation)
inside the five gallon bucket. When the bees are in the bucket, you have to keep the air circulating or they will over heat and die (they create their own heat - they always need ventilation). Once I am done vacuuming, I take the ventilated inner cage out and put it in my car to take home (then shake in the box once I get home). On one of the swarms, we used the vacuum to try to expedite the process on a cool, cloudy day.

There is an adjuster - you have to make sure it isn't closed all of the way, or you might end up with bee puree. I leave it open about 1 1/2 inches and the pump strength doesn't hurt any of them.

Last week there was a swarm 18 feet up in a tree. No way I could dump that in a box, so I used my bee vac. Worked like a charm.
