As a gun owner I would say my house is slightly less safe with my guns.
And actively using them for target shooting and hunting increases the risk.

But I take appropriate action to minimize that risk.

Other things that make my home less safe: gas fireplace, trampoline, gas grill, cars, ATV, boat, chickens, stairs, power tools.

I don't anticipate having to shoot an intruder. The chances are very low that I have to rebel against the government.
