Basketball historically, and you don't understand the star power that Penny has as the coach or his affinity for his alma matter.

In Memphis there are three Bs that the world revolves around: BBQ, Blues, and basketball. Memphis basketball. They support the Grizzlies, but they live and die Memphis...same as Carolina, Dook, UK or Kansas.

Penny knew a majority of this class long before he became coach he's develop relationships with several others guys over years of AAU play. A big part of the reason Memphis hired him is coach was because they knew he would be able to land a class like this.

There are people out there who would tell you that they are not at all surprised by this recruiting class. They are the same people that understood exactly what Memphis was hiring when they hired Penny. The key for him will be taking two 5-stars and five 4-stars in this recruiting class and not just winning the league but making a deep run in March; because just like Kentucky or Duke, several of these guys may well be 1-&-done, so if he wants to keep blowing it up recruiting he needs to kill it on the floor as well.
