It's none of my business if they have insurance or not. If I knew the person or the family and am personally affected by the death, I donate. I'm not wealthy at all, and I can't give very much, but I can help contribute some to a family that has lost a lot.
I don't think those are setup only for people without life insurance. In most cases it is friends of the family that set them up in order to help their friends.
Perhaps my view is too rosy and I'm naive, but it's how I chose to look at it.
Oh, and people should definitely have life insurance.
