he played in the same era as Mark Eaton, Hakeem Olajuwon, and (later) David Robinson. Gonna be pretty difficult to pile up defensive honors when you have those guys playing in the same league.
Put Dwight Howard up against those same guys in their primes and he isn't winning any defensive honors, either.
