after finishing residency next year but know very little about it.

Is it a good place to raise a family? (My kids range from <1 to 7 yo.) Also, I know there will be a temple built nearby in Richmond, but how strong is the Church out there? Would my kids be the only members in their schools? I'm sorry to be naive, but I grew up out West.
