I actually think you’re right, and they might be right too. Being in a
nationally significant conference puts pressure on the school to conform. The school doesn’t want to conform.
Being independent means the school has a little more freedom and I think the leadership likes that.
Be consistently ranked and no one will disapprove of independence.
