From a professional standpoint, I'm in favor of where this lawsuit is going. But
it has nothing to do with personal financial interest or protecting my turf - ultimately people who go to smiledirect will simply go to the next cheapest place if it's gone and that is like to be a general dentist...so I have little directly to gain from SDC going belly up. I'm in favor of it because unsupervised medical/dental care is being provided. It would be like having your neighbor pull out an abscessed tooth because he saw a guy in India do it on a youtube video. Or your uncle prescribing you his left over antibiotics from an old sinus infection to treat your kidney stones. People have lost teeth over this. I've seen cases where people did SDC and they come in with massive gum defects, tooth roots outside of bone, etc...things that should have completely nixed any ortho treatment to begin with. But because a competent, trained, informed doc wasn't involved in the diagnosis, treatment, or management of the case irreversible side effects took place.
