When you play an FCS opponent, you are far less likely to experience any meaningful injuries given the fact that you can rest your starters and play the backups. When you play a team like UAB, who isn't P5 but is at least a team you don't want to take lightly, you have to play your starters. You probably have the opportunity to rest your starters at some point late in the game. When you play a P5 team, you are more likely to need your guys for the full game.
So these teams who play 3-4 easy OOC games are at an advantage from a health standpoint. In addition, it gives them more opportunity to scout and prepare for their tougher opponents. Of course, when all the teams in the conference are playing by the same rules, it doesn't matter.
But in the end, we have a committee that looks at things and decides who will be in the final 4. I hope that they expand to 8 and I hope that when they do it, they make it a point to put in teams who scheduled tough into those 7-8 slots. That will ultimately improve schedules more than anything else.
