6th seed Stefanos Tsitsipas (Greece) was victorious in straight sets over Maximilian Marterer (Germany). The 20-year-old is considered a dark-horse contender at Roland Garros, having recently defeated Rafael Nadal on the clay courts of Madrid (losing to Novak Djokovic in the final) and winning the clay-court Estoril Open in Portugal.

He has a tough section of the draw, with 32nd seed Frances Tiafoe (United States) a potential 3rd-round opponent; and either 11th seed Marin Čilić (Croatia) or 24th seed Stan Wawrinka (Switzerland) likely waiting in the round of 16.

Čilić has also won his 1st-round match, taking down Thomas Fabbiano (Italy) in straight sets.
