Gasol, Ibaka, and Green weren't really stars at the time, and 10 year veterans
past their prime. Veteran role players are definitely what gets you to the Finals though. And frankly what gets to you win the Finals. Teams need stars, but the veteran role players get you over that hump. Every championship team has them. They are usually past their prime and sometimes even a shell of their former selves, but still play crucial roles. They're nice adds to go with a Leonard, and they already had one veteran star, plus a few solid draft picks of their own. Good recipe. Not good enough to beat the West, but good.
