with whom it's possible to have good conversations about football and other topics. A lot of them even pay for a subscription.
There are also several Ute trolls- who are embarrassing.
I'm going to be 100% honest. *MOST* of the people I know who actually graduated from the U don't hate BYU- especially those who, like myself, are members of the Church. I have a group of friends who get together to attend/watch several Utah games each year. There's usually 12-13 of us- and there are only 4 who hate BYU. And only one of them is active in the Church.
Only one of them attended the U. He grew up LDS, went on a mission, and then got excommunicated for fornicating. And has "wandered" in the wilderness since then.
The member of the Church grew up in a household with two Aggies as parents. His older siblings went to the U and Utah State. He actually went to Weber.
The other two both have antagonistic feelings about the Church. One is technically a member- I'm not sure about the other.
Most of the guys who- like me, attended the U, and are active in the Church- have at least some respect for BYU- as an institution, and as a quality football team. (Beating BYU only means something because they're a good team.)
It seems like there are a lot of "Ute fans" who only cheer for the Utes because their archrival is BYU- and BYU obviously represents the Church.
That said- my experience is entirely anecdotal.
CougarBoard is a very unique community. To be honest, I probably wouldn't be here if I hadn't attended BYU, but like I said- there are quite a few good exclusive Ute fans on here that add to the discussions. And there are also some goons. My favorite are the ones who post inflammatory posts- and then you look at their history- and they've just signed up 43 minutes prior to posting. 🙂🙄
