Wow, that is not my experience with owning a pool.
I live in Arizona so maybe it is muuuuuch cheaper to own a pool here but I find that hard to believe. The filter replacement is the biggest cost but that does not need to be done more than 3 times a year. The biggest factor that leads to frequent filter replacement is the late summer haboobs.

I own a salt water pool so I don't need to worry about chlorine. Muriatic acid is cheap and hard water line removal is easy if you keep up on it.

Costs are less than $200/mo including saving up for possible equipment repair/replacement.

Much better than swimming in somebody's toilet (urine drenched pool).
