Clayton Young ran a very tactical race. For much of the first half he was in the top five, and his pace seemed even and steady. Actually, he seemed very steady throughout. His facial expression didn't reveal any strain at all it seemed. With 10 laps to go he was in tenth and I began to wonder if he and the other BYU runners near him were doomed to a middle-of-the-pack finish. It wasn't really until three laps to go that Young made his move. With one lap to go he was in second place, and then in the back stretch he took the lead. The runner from Alabama was not giving up though and for a short stretch they ran basically side by side. But Young was on the inside of the track so he had the advantage and after the final turn he put some distance between himself and the other runner to win it. It was really a fun race to watch with an exciting finish.
