The Telluride wasnt out yet when we bought ours but I probably wouldn't have been inclined to a Kia over a VW anyway. I'd particularly be interested in the Kia interior noise level.

Unless you "need" an SUV for 4WD, get a mini van. Better in most every way (but not tires/alignments)

If you want a roomy SUV, your list should be Tahoe, Expedition, Suburban, Sequoia. If you want smaller than those,

Almost identical in length and width. Atlas has a little larger storage capacity.
