Love trolls, how they only bring up one side. Yeah, he knew, he had to know, it wasn't like 'people buying/giving
you stuff isn't pretty clearly covered in the athletes information meetings. They know the policies, and know they should question it all.

But on the flip side, the NCAA came after an easy mark. A kid they knew if he wanted to stay at BYU would spill the beans and come clean, and a university that wouldn't fight how the NCAA chose to define 'sponsors' of the university (specifically Smith). And their attitude of complete denial to his circumstances during the divorce is ridiculous.

But the Trib should be ashamed. They only go back at this because they got the names of the three guilty parties and wanted to turn the manure pit over again. Poor form. Especially when you consider this wasn't wild parties, boozing it up, call girls. How lame that it only included a pair of shoes, golf and dinner, some free travel, and a used car. What? not even a A6? he got busted for a Jetta?

Anyway, I'm not a big basketball fan, and the kid should have known better, he should have funded his travel with loans from family or a credit card, not with the intention to 'pay it back'. But reality is that he made this case easy for the NCAA even if they didn't choose to use a sledgehammer where a gavel was the right tool.

Doesn't mean the OP needs to be a dip about it
