I don't think the criticism is motivated by sexism, but I do think the criticism
is ridiculous. Scoring a goal is a big deal and is part of the joy of the game. Players should be able to celebrate. None of the celebrations were over the top or directed at Thailand.
Also, criticisms that they scored too much and should have stopped trying to score are even more absurd. Goal differential can be key to advancement and seeding — you should not take for granted that you will not need goal differential or that no other team can match your scoring output. I agree that it is unlikely other teams will match the USWNT's performance, but there is a chance and when advancement is on the line you do everything in your power to secure your place to the utmost.
