I can recall two instances where I did this. One was at a Walmart
Waiting in the checkout line and my kids were young and a mom was behind us but started smacking her kid and saying things I can’t recall but they were like stupid or idiot or just weird things for a mom to say to her toddlers while she was smacking them. I simply looked at her and said hey chill out, they are just kids. She looked at me and got embarrassed and it ended.

The second one was I was coaching my sons flag football team and during one of our games I heard a coach on the opposite field yelling and cursing at his players. I looked around for our league president who was on the opposite end far away where she couldn’t have heard it. I saw fans from that field start to jog towards the league presidents location so I decided to call timeout on our game and ran across our field to the other field with the issue was going on. Just as I crossed our field I saw the coach open fist punch the teenage player in the face after the kid had told him to F off. I ran in and grabbed the coach to separate him from the teen while parents of the team members stood by and watched. Some of them actually told me to stay out of it as they explained it was his son and he should be allowed to handle the disrespectful kid how he wanted to. I held him and told him I wasn’t going to let him go until everyone calmed down and regardless of it being his son and his son being a punk, you can’t punch your kids.

The league president would finally get there and the police arrived a short time later, I had to give a statement and then I left so I could get back over to my sons game and I don’t remember if they took him into custody or not but I just remember the feeling of seeing a dad punch his 13 year old son in the face while others just seemed to be standing around thinking the kid deserved it. I guess if any of my sons ever told me to F off on the sideline as a coach I might lose my cool and would definitely send them to the car, but trying to knock them out I doubt would even cross my mind let alone be something so natural to do in public
