My thoughts on the AD trade
The Lakers gave up too much, but had to with Lebron aging.

Lonzo? Role player who's best asset is defense.

Ingram - Intriguing young player. Can he be the 3rd best player on a good/great team? Maybe. 2nd best? More of a stretch, but he is still really young.

Hart - Another role player who can be a 3 and D type player if he learns to shoot again.

4th overall pick: Not a great pick, but in my opinion there are a few levels in this draft. First level is just one pick and Zion. Second level only lasts 2 picks with Morant and Barrett. So the Pelicans will get their choice of 3rd level guys, but drafting just a pick earlier would be much better in my opinion.

Future LA Picks and Swaps. Lebron James will be 35 for most of next year's season. In basketball years, that is really old. If you look at games played then he is decrepit. He is one Kobe Bryant pulled achilles from being done. Davis is injury prone himself. Could some of those years return a really high draft pick? I think it easily could. The Lakers will likely not have much else than those two stars (I know they want Walker and Leonard although it is unclear if they will be able to pull off the cap space depending on when the trade is finalized).

The Pelicans made out extremely well in this trade. If I were them I would trade Holiday and have a fun, young team next year that loses a lot. That would give them another high draft pick next year. On top of that they will continue to be able to build with extra picks and swaps for years to come.

Anthony Davis is a very talented player, but not one that made his teammates better. He won 5 playoff games in 7 seasons. That isn't good. Certainly there were some talent issues around him, but the guys they did bring in were never able to gel alongside Davis (took a shot at Cousins who didn't make them better), brought in Holiday who has been really good but the Pels have still struggled, brought in Mirotic, Randle last year and the team struggled. Over the years Davis has played with the aforementioned Cousins, Evans, Crawford, Hield, Gordon, Rivers...etc. None of those guys had their best seasons with Davis on the squad.

So the Pelicans start over, but do so with Zion Williamson, Ingram, the #4 pick, Holiday and a bevy of future picks. Do you like their chances of winning a title before a team like the Jazz who will likely win 50+ games again next season? I think I do (depending on what both teams do in the off-season and beyond). Most of that is luck though as the Pelicans needed the #1 pick to get Davis and were lucky in getting #1 this year. It still begs the question, what is the best way to build a franchise. A lot of the answer is luck.
