I've put 1x11 SLX M7000 groupsets on older frames. One was an old Marin frame
and the other an old Trek frame (both 18 years old). You'll need a legacy bottom bracket/crank puller (special tool) to get the old cranks and bearings out and a new threaded bottom bracket to install the proper crank and front chain ring.
Older frames will likely have 26" wheels and won't be boost rears, but they work rather well with the 1x11 group sets.
