US told CONMEBOL that they would not accept an invitation, so we didn’t get one.
Likewise Mexico, which had played in every Copa since 1993. Other CONCACAF nations (like Costa Rica, which has been invited before) had the same conflict, the Gold Cup. So Japan and Qatar were invited instead.
Qatar and Australia were recently invited to the next Copa America too — I don’t know why Mexico and other CONCACAF teams were not invited to that one.
