because BYU is a private institution. I realize it may provide more for assistant coaches, but has our problem really been poor assistant coaching?
BYU is going to run a tight ship and be frugal just as the church does no matter how much the ESPN money brings. Going on about how the money has really helped our football program just isn't the case. We are always going to be frugal and pay coaches slightly less than market value because it's BYU. It's like a calling to a certain degree. Don't get me wrong, KS making a million a year is not small potatoes.
To me the extra ESPN money seems to have gone to the athletic department administration and to subsidize other sports at BYU. It probably has been put in coffers to keep sports going for as long as possible.
