field. Tom is fine with mediocre seasons as long as the ESPN money is there. His objectives are different from the objectives of BM or KS. The HC is the one on front of the battle lines trying to persuade kids to come to BYU and play. They are dealing with the HC office and all the baggage that goes with that. They are coaching the kids day to day.
The AD is mainly a figurehead/administrator for the Athletic Department. Not saying TH is doing a bad job with his duties. I just see his objectives as slighly different from the HC. Obviously they want the FB to be successful but I think they define success much differently.
As a football fan, my view of the success of the fb program is more in line with the view a HC would have. TH definition of success just doesn't interest me as a fan. I could care less how much money our program is making as long as we are operating in the black.
Whenever you have a former HC saying that independence isn't sustainable, I tend to give this a lot of credence.
What is TH going to say? "this independence thing is nothing more than a money grab"
