I know you're grasping because you're embarrassed about how good Utah is..
...at copying things. The reality is there is far more connection with BYU and the Shaka sign than Utah could ever claim with their copied hand signals. It's far more than some random "Mormon sugar mill worker", but you can downplay it as much as you want. BYU-Hawaii PCC has a friggin' statue of the guy out front for heaven's sake. There are books about this guy if you're interested. Here's another post on the matter...
