My daughter was born with some mildly serious kidney problems. It was hard to watch as she was getting her bladder/ureter/kidney tested as a baby. This specific time she was OK for the most part, but by the end she was tired and hungry and wanted held. The testing is all done, and the only part left was removing the catheter. At this point she's just screaming and screaming. My wife is already emotional about it, and is sitting down while holding our baby's hand. I'm trying to be the hero dad, and stay right up close to comfort our screaming baby with my voice, and touch as much as I can. I remember thinking, we're almost done, I'll sit down in just a minute....
...waking up I have a dozen docs looking over me. My wife said I was our for close to 10 minutes (probably an exaggeration). They had finished everything with our daughter and she must have been in my wife's arms finishing eating. They say this happens "all the time", but it's clearly uncommon enough that everyone there was enjoying the fact that I was in the little hospital bed while my baby was fine, falling asleep and ready to go home.
