Knicks get Westbrook,

I think that this would be the best possible outcome for both franchises. We all know that the Knicks are not going to get Giannis in 2021, and we know that they are not going to be able to smartly build a contender through the draft. This gives them a playoff team (something they haven't had in years) built around Russ, Julius Randle, Mitchell Robinson and RJ Barrett (or, alternatively, they could probably package RJ Barrett and DSJ to another team for a player who fits better with Russ - DSJ would almost certainly be gone). The Knicks have already stupidly clogged their cap with promised contracts to guys like Reggie Bullock, Bobby Portis, Elfrid Payton, and Taj Gibson, and I'm not sure if those have been "signed" or if they could still back out. If they are already signed, they could wait until the moratorium on trading signed players expires in December and do the deal then by throwing in some of the guys who were signed on 1 and 1 deals.

For the Thunder, that is about the best "haul" they can expect for Russ. Due to his giant contract and style of play, there is going to be a limited market for him. This way, they are getting a draft pick, a solid young prospect in Knox, and cap relief.

Sounds like he is probably headed to the Heat, though. I'll bet one way or another it's done by the end of the week.
