Suns aren’t really a small market team. They’ve gotten stars outside the draft
Barkley - Trade
KJ - Trade
Chambers - FA
Kidd - Trade
Marbury - Trade
Nash - Technically we drafted him, but came back as a FA
We drafted Marion, Amare, Booker, but at 9,9, and 13.
Yes you have better chances higher in the draft at getting a star, but no guarantees. And as we’ve seen, if you miss on those top guys, you get stuck at the bottom.
Even if you hit, no guarantee of success(see New Orleans)
I’m not saying you should strive for mediocrity, but there are better ways to rebuild than trying to be as bad as possible.
