In this case, the runner coming home from 3rd is not permitted to move out of a direct path between where he's running and home to initiate contact with a catcher. As soon as the runner (a) deviates from a straight path to home, and (b) in the process makes contact with the catcher, he's violated the rule. Given the level of injury to Lucroy, a two game suspension is extremely reasonable.
