Unprecedented? I'd imagine there may have been a million year old reef between volcanic eruptions during
the formation of most major islands that could have been miles and and miles deep and wide that could have been eliminated completely by subsequent volcanic activity. Yet somehow reefs continued to form. Even the ones we have now.

Not suggesting that known dangers to reefs shouldn't be reduced/eliminated.

Oh, and Utah sucks. 🙂
