Whether current Tesla cars are getting power from fossil fuels is irrelevant.
EVs are going to be much cleaner for the earth and help propel future technology forward.

Even if using fossil fuels, EVs are cleaner because they are approx 90-95% efficient and they can pull electricity and power from a plant that is going to be generating electricity more efficiently than a small ICE. Also it is much lower cost and efficient to transport energy across powerlines than it is to transport the gasoline to all the necessary gas stations. So unless the power grid and infrastructure in your region is extremely inefficient, it is still going to be cleaner to drive an EV.

Also, EVs are creating a capitalistic way to make *A LOT OF MONEY* while we build towards the goal of near-infinite energy. With the need to develop better batteries in order for renewable energy to replace the most inefficient means of producing energy (Such as shipping tons of fossil fuels to Hawaiian islands costing $$$$, we have replaced that with a much cheaper and more efficient Solar array), we eventually will get to a point were renewable energy is cheaper than fossil fuels! 🙂

Lastly, why are people not more excited about everything that will be possible with near-infinite energy? The sun can give us enough energy we can turn the Sahara desert into a rain forest, we can use solar energy harvested in Texas can be used to power the entire USA and eventually be used to just melt ice off the roads in the north, or give everyone cheap power to make personalized helicopter or airplanes much more affordable. Plus this is the technology that would be necessary if Musk or Bezos want to start a lunar colony or martian colony.

Fossil fuels are a great source of energy for the time being, but for my desire as a geek for technology and life to get better and better, I support EVs because their technology is indirectly helping us build towards an amazing future.
