I might recommend a very basic explanation of the functions and how they
all interplay and some very basic troubleshooting. IOW, talk about how the engine drives the driveshaft, which also powers the pulleys on the front of the car that drive the alternator, water pump, power steering and air conditioning. If they run into a situation where their car is both overheating AND the power steering goes, they know to look to see if the belt(s) are broken. Not that you would expect them to fix the belt(s), but they will be able to communicate to their spouses/mechanic why they're stranded.
