My parents are going through something similar. They keep paying off all the hospital bills but a month later another one shows up. It's bull crap that they can wait so long to bill you.

If it’s a bill from last year, it gets applied to last years allowable/max/deductible etc

Then when you do compare it and figure it out, you ask for a refund which they have to give you.
