If he's talking hard core fans, you'd think it would include CB as a good example.

When I scan CB on a daily basis, I see wide variety of interests beyond sports and even religion. Politics, money/investments/careers, entertainment, practical advise, hobbies, families, etc.

Are we supposed to believe that the fan base of UVA is so sophisticated? What do they talk/think/do that BYU fans don't think about? They live on the East Coast so automatically they are more erudite than people in Utah or other cities with great concentrations of BYU Alumni?

and, ya, their fans don't link football scores to a lot of things in life because for a couple of decades their football team has sucked.
