In short, I would say: Sitake underachieved in 2016 and 2017 but 2018 is a little more complicated.

2016 and 2017 I was willing to give him a pass if it was true that he didn’t hire detmer because that’s not fair to KS. Our problems those two years were almost entirely offensive. Had we hired an experienced and competent OC, 2016 could have been pretty special. 2017 would have probably been pretty bad still but at least we’d likely break even or maybe a winning record.

2018 is hard to tell. He overachieved some games (Arizona, Wisconsin) and underachieved in others. The losses to Cal and NIU were mostly due to poor offensive play calling. Those games should have been wins.

Utah as well but that one is harder for me to be too harsh because we still scored 27 points. Boise is also tricky but ultimately we lost on some bad offensive play calls and clock management and yet they played good enough to win. So.........

Basically in 2018 you had two games that we were expected to lose and we won. Two games that we should have won but we lost. Two other games that we expected to lose but as it turns out should have won but ended up losing anyway mostly due to coaching errors. And then a bowl blow out win.

We were expected to have a losing record and the new OC was a question mark and so I would say overall, he overachieved in 2018.

2019 though....this is his biggest year because it’s put up or shut up time...no excuses. He has his staff with one year under their belts, and he’s got his QB and RB’s and TE’s all healthy and ready to go...the schedule is favorable (though incredibly difficult) but we get almost all of our difficult games at home except Tennessee (and maybe USF, but they are kind of a who knows) when does that EVER happen? This has to be the best home schedule BYU’s ever had and maybe ever WILL have? I don’t see how we can top this but I would absolutely love to be proven wrong.

KS in 2019 could become a pretty big deal if he overachieves even just a little.
