I asked this question because some people got upset and can't believe that a true fan like me wouldn't storm the field if BYU beats Utah. One person even called me a 'field stormer elitist' (which is an awesome made-up label BTW...)
So I wondered if age/generation had anything to do with it.
The background:
I was raised to bleed blue. Our family has had season tickets since Jim McMahon was QB. My freshman year, we stormed the field when BYU beat #1 ranked Miami. It was glorious.
As a teenager and in my college years, BYU DOMINATED the U. So I got complacent and the last decade has been painful, to say the least. But if BYU beats Utah in a few weeks, it's hard for me to think about storming the field (even if my old fat body could climb the barrier to get to the field). Mainly because I always feel like BYU should beat them. Regardless of ranking or the past decade of losses, etc...(Maybe I'm in denial)
Also, it probably has something to do when Utah stormed the field...3 TIMES... in their victory over BYU a few years ago. It was comical and embarrassing for them (IMO) and I would hope our fans wouldn't make a silly blunder like that.
So back to the question about age - I'm curious if people that would storm the field in a few weeks haven't experienced those winning years over Utah. And maybe this will be such a pent-up emotion to finally beat them, that they'll rush the field...which I can totally understand.
Or maybe I am a 'field stormer elitist'
Or maybe I'm just old.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
