I need some help with getting a lawn into shape
I took a job in an area that I am not sure I am going to stay long term, so I decided to rent. Will probably be at this location another 1-2 years. Part of me just wants to say "who cares, I am renting", but I have too much pride in the appearance of my home and lawn so I want to do something.

The current problem: The lawn is riddled with weeds (especially crabgrass), different types of grasses, and lots of patches of no grass (which is wide open for weeds)

This past year: I was mowing tall, I used milorganite, weed and feed periodically (Scott's), and I seeded some areas of little growth and put straw down. At first, things seemed to be working and the new grass came in beautifully. But weeds completely took over my patches of new grass and the lawn looks like crap again.

Solution:
- I am going to aerate and seed at the beginning of September (need lots more grass)
- At the beginning of next season, I am going to pre-treat for weeds. I don't really know how to do this so any tips appreciated
- I am going to continue to mow tall and fertilize (milorganite)

What am I missing? What do I need to do differently? I don't want to spend a ton because I won't be here long term, but I really do want to improve this lawn. Thanks!
