You are saying they are competing with CNBC, CSPAN and Fox Business?  That's just not true.  They used to be ahead of MSNBC, now they are losing big with awful programming.  They invented cable news, for crying out loud!

There are not a lot of Cable News Networks, and CNN is last of the big 3 and its not close.  And they have a radical anti-Trump programming.  Not mainstream at all.
