Not sure, my understanding is that spinal injuries are more a concern
in rugby, but that’s largely due to scrums.
I suppose part of the benefit of shoulder pads and helmets is it helps prevent your head from getting twisted in extreme positions. So maybe it’s a wash when all is said and done.
