Not sure what kind of car it is, but I swapped out alternators on my son's Jeep Liberty in a parking lot. It only needed
a screwdriver and a 10mm socket. It was one of the easiest things I've ever done on a car. Easier than changing a tire. It totally depends on the location of the alternator though. My car would be a lot tougher because of the placement. It just depends on where they stick it.
