Live audiences are always forced laughs
Norm MacDonald said this on Comedians in Cars. When he was writing for Roseanne he found this out. He said the first time he saw a script he was panicked because the jokes were so bad he knew it was going to bomb. Then at the screening, if the crowd didn't laugh at the right times they would retake the scene and someone would tell the audience their job was to laugh.
