So Utah's been riding the offseason hype train for months. While I see a really solid team on both sides for the U, I don't totally get the "best Utah team ever" stuff. They were 9-5 last year and ended the season on a 2-game losing skid that should have been 3 games with the BYU game. They lost 3 awesome O-line starters, their best linebacker and their amazing special teams guys.
If BYU had managed to not choke away three games that they totally should have won — Northern Illinois, Boise State and Utah — I wonder if BYU would have a bunch of offseason hype after a 10-3 season. Or even a 9-4 campaign.
Anyway, offseason hype is always interesting and funny to see who gets the spotlight. It doesn't always make sense. Teams can lose tons of high-level NFL talent and a bunch of starters and be a top-15 team with lots of hype (see Washington).
Guess we'll see on the field on August 29. Go Cougs. BYU by 7.
