The years Utah won those bowls they weren't playing for a championship.
For the most part, no one remembers those types of bowls outside of their fan base. USC has been to 34 Rose Bowls and won 25 of those games. Outside of the games that were for championships, does anyone outside of USC's fan base really care? BYU has been to the Fiesta Bowl and won the Cotton Bowl, does it really matter outside of BYU's fan base?
