Not an answer to your question, but we like walking up the stairs.
This gets you up to the 2nd level, if you want to take the elevator to get the very top you can from there.
Much less waiting time (although if you're going to the top, there's still a long wait at the 2nd level), and it's part of the adventure/experience. I think it may be less expensive too but that's not why I'd recommend it.
